今週の英語学習の疑問点まとめ。riseとraise 、how muchの使い方

今週の英語学習中に生じた疑問点を2つまとめておく。

A lot of money has been invested in the rising of the sunken ship.

間違いを訂正する問題。

誤：rising

正：raising

riseはintransitive verbであるため、risingだと、沈没した船が勝手に浮き上がってくることになる。

沈没した（sunkenまたはsunk)船を外力をかけて引き上げるのだから、transitive verbのraiseを使い、

A lot of money has been invested in the raising of the sunken ship. とせねばならない。

意味は、『沈没船の引き上げ作業に多額の投資がなされてきた』

When I look back upon my life I  cannot but notice how much that vitally affected me has been due to circumstances ・・・

how much that のthatの先行詞が何かわからん。

much かhow muchか。
